Who knew about the rock shrew

http://www.mass.gov/eea/agencies/dfg/dfw/natural-heritage/species-information-and-conservation/mesa-list/list-of-rare-species-in-massachusetts.html

These rock shrews although little is know about them, are going endangered. Due to the pollution, and intoxications these little guys are sadly going extinct. Things like pest killers are hurtful for the rock shrew. In general though, who knew about the rock shrew.

  1. The rock shrew definitely is something we haven't learned about. Even though we do not know about these rock shrews, we still need to help them from being endangered. On the website I read that the reason they are going extinct is because of the growing population and also things like pest killers. We can help them by not using many pest killers.

  2. It's inportant that we protect all animals, even an animal as small as the rock shrew. They are important parts of the area's ecosystem and if they die out they will upset the balance of all animals in the area.

  3. After reading this, I feel bad that I didn't even know that these animals exist! Although I do feel that every animal should be acknowledged and helped, not extinct, especially since it's our pollution that is causing the rock shrew to become extinct. A good thing that's read in the article link is that this animal is being noticed by the state, which is a good step in helping the animals.

  4. I was very sad to hear that rock shrews are going extinct, after I learned what a rock shrew is. Although, I believe that no animal should go extinct, I'm wondering if there's another site that describes the benefits a rock shrew gives to our society, and why people are so concerned as to them going extinct.

  5. yes so this seems to lead back to pollution which generally seems to be a pretty big problem of the time. i have read that the same thing is happening to water shrews and other animals. my question: what can we do to stop it? i have many ideas but these ideas are only coming from an 8th grade mind. what have older minds thought of to stop this problem? what is humanity doing to help

  6. It's sad to think because of us, animals are going extinct. We need to lower the amount of pollution that is going into the air. For instance, we could limit the amount of carbon that is produced in our everyday lives and factories. We need to help so we can help save humans and animals like the Rock Shrew.

  7. If we try to lower the amount of pollution in the area were the Rock Shrew lives then, it would have less of a chance of going extinct.

  8. I know that it would be morally bad if the rock shrew, also known as the long tailed shrew, where to die it really wouldn't have too much of an impact on the enviroment. It's only predators are owls, Hawks and snakes, which all have plenty of prey to feast on such as rabbits squirrles and other small mammals. And with the shrews already being on the brink of extinction I feel that it wouldn't really affect the ecosystem too bad if the shrews did actually die out. But it is good to keep as many species of animals alive as possible, and that is why we should keep as many shrews alive in zoos everywhere.

  9. I don't really think that the Rock Shrew have much of an impact on the in environment as Jake said above, but I do think this is a good example of how Humans tend to disturb and destroy habitats that support animal life. We need to protect the shrews habitat in the Damp forests for not just the rock shrew but for the other animals living there.

  10. I find it interesting that the pollution is the leading cause of death of rock shrews. I wonder what other animal could possibly be effected by the eviorment.

  11. We should always try to keep our distance from some fragile animals like the rock shrew. With us making the shrew go extinct, it might take the whole local ecosystem with it!
