This is a really big problem and I think it's something that politics need to fix and I don't know how much science can help. If there was a way that science could somehow fix this problem that would be really cool.
America needs to become more like Canada with its health care. You could fly to Spain or something live their for three years, get two hip replacements, fly back to America and only spend 2/3 of the money you would need to get one hip replacement in America.
The issue is that many people can't afford health care and the U.S can do something about it and help. they can help by making the prices low or even free to help the people in need that live in rural parts of the state.
According to the article, New Hampshire is the best state for the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases, but their ranking was still only 8/10. For the majority of states who scored 5 or lower, this would be a great improvement and they could learn a lot from New Hampshire. The spread of infectious diseases can be prevented by creating awareness and that should be the goal, along with improving treatments. As evidenced by is report, public health needs a ton of improvement in the US.
The article says something about how so many people get Hospital Acquired Infections. I think what we need is a mixture of healthcare cost improvement (like Khadija said, it should be cheaper), but also better sanitation in more hospitals.
