What are large areas of land that is protected by a national government because of its natural beauty or its importance to history or science? A National Park, of course! Sadly there are many problems with these parks such as pollution, water, and even budget to help maintain the parks. The article I read really shows how big and how many problems we have with our parks. We have to act fast to save these beautiful parks. There are even more but this article shows the big ten that everyone needs to help with.
Could volunteer work help? For example if volunteers were recruited to do clean-ups and the like? That way they wouldn't have to be paid, so it would be saving money and helping out the land a little. And fundraising could do quite a bit as well. Also, if we introduced native plants and/or animals to the land and tried to take out all of the invasive species, that could help.
ReplyDeleteI think it is really important to keep our parks clean, they represent our nation and I think it reflects badly on us if they are not kept clean. Tons of tourists come each day from all over the world to see these sites and they need to be clean. It might help with budget if we were to charge more for littering on these parks, so that we can have more money to beautify them. Or if we were organize volunteer days where if people came they were to recieve some kind of reward maybe coupons or a gift certificate.

DeleteI think it is really important to keep our parks clean, they represent our nation and I think it reflects badly on us if they are not kept clean. Tons of tourists come each day from all over the world to see these sites and they need to be clean. As it says in the article "No park exists in isolation, and that fact is becoming increasingly clear as the areas surrounding parks are developed for living space, agriculture, mining, forestry, and more." We need to make it seem like they exsist in isolation though. Maybe if we were to organize volunteer days, sort of like what Anne said, and if people came they were to recieve some kind of reward maybe coupons or a gift certificate. So then the park would get clean and they wouldn't be spending all the money.
DeleteThe NPS Chief of Public Affairs says “When we have to make a choice between recreation and preservation, we will always choose preservation and our decision will be based on our mandate, policies, and good science.” But not everyone thinks that way. Tourism provides revenue and oil drilling and mining can be huge sources of profit. I think the government should provide more funding to help with infastructure (Number 9) and protection. We should also use more clean energy and less water to help with pollution and water issues.
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely important to make sure our parks are well maintained and clean. This parks represent our states and what makes them great, so if they're bad, then that's how our state looks. After reading the article, it made me realize how much history the parks carry, and without them it will soon be lost in our memories. It is obviously vital to keep our parks in the best shape and my dedicating time, money and really just helping keep them clean, this is definitely achievable.
ReplyDeleteI think Anne has a rally good idea! Volunteer work would help maintain the parks with out spending a lot of money, and it would encourage people to spend time outside, have fun, and benefit their community. We need to keep these parks, they are beautiful and they preserve our country's history.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Annie. Volunteering could really help solve this problem and it's a easy way to help the environment. Many people would love to help national parks and make them clean again. This might be a solution that we should try out

ReplyDeleteI agree with all you guys, these are great ideas such as volunteer work and how this would really benefit these amazing places
ReplyDeleteMaybe the people that work at the parks should try to make everyone aware of the pollution that is happening at the parks.
ReplyDeleteThis is crazy, I just posted a video about deforestation. People need to save the forests and national parks. The people need to watch out because "more than 6,500 non-native invasive species have been found in U.S. national parks." People need to stop and care about the parks.
ReplyDeleteI recently took a trip to Yosemite, it was the most beautiful, eye-opening experience. To imagine the power of natural beauty being destroyed is incredibly depressing. We have done well trying to preserve the land, but the idea of traveling into the unknown has been pretty much demolished with the technology and knowledge we have developed in this decade. As it says in the article, we are the cause of all this destruction and the reason there is a lack of isolation for these parks.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anne. I think that "volunteer work is crucial and could help with these parks". I think that they should make pollution a bigger deal at these parks. Tourist come and toss their disposal as they please all over everywhere. I think that they should step it up on the trash. I also think that because "45 percent of the park services collections have not even been catalogued." They need to come up with an idea to raise money for these parks, because they have very special artifacts that need to be reserved. I agree that this is a enormous problem that needs to be solved.
ReplyDeleteIt seems ironic to me that some parks are "facing overcrowding issues," while others don't receive enough attention and support. Maybe this particular issue is a matter of advertising for those parks, to make sure that people know where they are. as everyone before me has said, volunteer work would probably be super helpful. Maybe schools and communities around the national parks can arrange certain days that the public can come and help clean up and preserve the parks. Hopefully we'll be able to preserve these parks. Interesting article!
ReplyDeleteWe like to think that we as a country treasure and value our national parks, but when you here that "Many of those parks lack the money and staff" that is needed to maintain them we find that is not completely true. The truth is that a lot of these parks are extremely environmentally unstable, and that is actually the reason that they are deemed national parks. They have come to such a point where they are too vulnerable to humans that we mark it off to protect it and hope that it will fix itself with a little time, but the fact is, it can't fix itself and without the proper funds, the park rangers can't do anything either.
ReplyDeleteIt's extremely important to keep our National Parks clean because they have so much history in each and everyone of them. The article stated "National parks protect the historic buildings in which America’s history was made, places like Independence Hall, Ellis Island, and the San Antonio Missions." The parks are being littered in, and then the parks money has to be spent to clean the trash up. National Parks should press a bigger fine on the litterers so that the parks can be kept clean.
