Homelessness in America

In America more than 3.5 million people are homeless each year!
35% of the homeless population are families with children!
25% are children under the age of 18!

Homelessness in America is a bigger problem than you would think. When you see people on the street you say, "Oh I wonder what stupid thing they did".

  1. I find it devastating that people have to live under these conditions and that they are judged all the time, like you said. I also think that it's shocking that 25% of homeless people are under 18. Homelessness is difficult to control and I also don't really know how science and help lower the price of living and unemployment rates but I think homelessness is a very important issue to be educated on and help when you can.

  2. This Is definetly a Huge problem in America I cant't believe that according to your article "35% of the homeless population are families with children, which is the fastest growing segment of the homeless population" In your article, a possible solution to preventing homelessness is "by tackling its root causes-low wages and a lack of affordable housing-and by improving support services like TANF, housing vouchers, and health care."

  3. this is a big problem in america. whenever i go into the city (sf) i see lots of homeless people in corners and alleyways. yes i am only speaking about california but i can only imagine how many homeless people there are in places like miami or new york city. there are lots of charities though giving homeless people homes and resources that they need but clearly there arent enough....

  4. I think it's incredibly sad and disappointing to find out the statistics of all the homeless people in America. I agree with you that it's bad to judge a homeless person as to what they may have done, and to think of what they couldn't of possibly done, such as finding affordable health care and Receiving a higher income. Like the article said, I think we can solve the homeless problem by creating an affordable health care.

  5. I find that the facts you stated where really shocking, one fourth of homeless people are under the age of 18. That's a really powerful fact and I think that the disrespect many homeless people experience needs to stop. I was really flabbergasted when I read this post and I feel that we've all looked down upon homeless people when we walk by them sometimes. I feel that many people overlook this topic when it's brought up and It needs to Stop.

  8. Wow this is terrible, the government should do something about this and make houses for the homeless or maybe give them jobs anyone can do so they can at least make enough money for food. It sucks that 35% of homeless people have family's with children what are they gonna do. We should have fundraisers or something that we can do to raise money for homeless people to get them back on their feet.

  9. The amount of homeless people I'm America is really sad and the fact that even people with mental illnesses and addiction are not given the proper resources and treatment is horrible. It's really shocking that 25% of the population suffer from mental illnesses And 20% of the population have an addiction. I think that the government should try to help homeless people out of poverty and give them the resources and help needed.

  10. The statistics of this topic really shocked me I mean 25% of homeless people are under 18! That is truly awful! And I agree with you, that all we do is walk right past these people on the street. In fact, the only way this issue will ever resolve is if we help them, with what is available to us and not them. We are the only chance of making that percentage 0.

  11. The amount of homeless is astonishing. During a project last year I found out that even with the huge amount of homeless in America there are enough abandon and vacant homes in China that would allow every homeless person in America to won three houses. This solution is not very possible, however it could work to send homeless people to China if they are that desperate for a home.
