Heart Disease is Increasing in America

http://millionhearts.hhs.gov/abouthds/cost-consequences.html

Every year, 1.5 million Americans have heart attacks or strokes. In addition to that, 800,000 Americans die of Cardiovascular Disease every year, that is 1 in every 3 deaths. Also, over 3 million people in the US have reported themselves to be disabled because of a heart condition. As Americans exercise less and less, as well as choosing to eat poorly, their hearts become worse and worse. If we don't find a way to prevent this disease more effectively, it could effect even more people.

  1. The first step to solving this problem would be to reasearching what is on the food that most Americans eat and what their regular diet is. That would help preventing this problem but so far it seems to bug to prevent, we could reasearch stem cells and the heart and hopefully upgrade and make artificial hearts more available to the public.

  2. Wow I didn't know how bad and how much heart disease there is in America. We all could benefit from working out more and eating better and less fatty food. Students and adults need to seriously improve their eating habits.

  3. Heart disease and stroke costs the US $312.6 billion every year and every 43 seconds, someone is the US has a heart attack. So economically and just for the sake of human lives we need to fix this problem. Many heart issues can be helped by educating the public about what they are eating. We should lobby the fast food industry to lower the salt, sugar, and fat contents in their food. (Especially fat, as that is one of the main perpetrators in heart disease.)

  4. It's definitely unfortunate that one in three people with cardiovascular disease die every year. I think that if everyone put more effort into eating healthy foods and exercising more, then this will be an overall healthier country with less people who have to suffer from these diseases. On the link I read that not only do 610,000 people die of heart disease each year, but it's also immensely expensive. The is about $312.6 billion is costs that health care has payed. This is an unbelievable amount of money for a disease that can be prevented!

  5. Cardiovascular disease is a very serious disease. I have known many people to have heart disease, and it is very serious. Especially with the very unhealthy way that America eats heart disease is always a risk. I'm shocked that 1 and every three deaths are because of heart disease. This is a very serious problems and I hope we solve it.

  6. 1 out of every 3 deaths a day in the United States is far too many people dying from a preventable disease. We have to do a better job on educating people on what they are eating.

  7. This is crazy I didn't know that 1.5 million Americans get heart attacks or strokes a year. We need to start making people exercise more and eat better foods. We should have lessons in school that teach kids what certain foods and drinks can do to you long term and how it can even ruin your life. In my P.E class all we did was watch a short movie about it one class and that was it.

  9. It's sad to think we are bringing this upon ourselves because of the foods we choose to eat , and I do think bringing education will help, but the issue is also the availability of these unhealthy foods.
